该剧共10集，是纪录片风格，时间设定在第一部电影推出后15年(类似真实生活时间)，讲述东高一群学生设计排演音乐剧《歌舞青春》，发现戏外的抓马跟剧中一样多。每集会有一首新歌，加上一首来自原电影的曲目。。九〇年代的美国，和家人初移民的小姊姊梁芬，渴望融入新环境，而迷恋着当时女孩间流行的彩色蝴蝶发夹。梁芬对蝴蝶发夹的执着，混杂着对俗气妹妹的厌恶，使得母女三人新生活下隐含的张力一触即发。。Chantel is happy: her son's away at school playing soccer, she and her husband get along, her neighbor Agnès is her best friend, and her job at a government office is easy.
